Static corrections influence on wave equation prestack depth migration

Abstract:At present, the wave-equation prestack depth migration is one of the most effective methods for seismic imaging of complex geological structures, and has been extensively used in the industry. However, in the practice, the wave-equation imaging does not always show its superiority in those tough situations. The main reason is undeterminable solutions of the static corrections caused by complex near-surface problems. In this paper, based on the processing and analyzing of a theoretical model, we illustrate the influence of near-surface velocity model precision, high-velocity crest picking, and conversional replacement velocities on the wave-equation prestack depth imaging.
