High-efficient numeric simulation of spontaneous potential log in complex beds

Abstract:Spontaneous potential log is important tool for surveying physical parameters of beds in petroleum exploration. With respect to such complex stratigraphic model as continuously-changing resistivity model in invasion zone and water-flooded zone, the papper created the math model of spontaneous potential log based on continuous invasion and presented finite-difference algorithm capturing potential jump at interface, which is characterized by simple and easy to realization by programming in computer. Using the method to quantitatively analyze the influence of resistivity, of target, bed thickness, well diameter and invasion and water-flooded zones on spontaneous potential log response achieved satisfied results. The realization of numeric simulation of spontaneous potential log for complex beds provided the basis of logging interpretation and has a certain guide meaning for practical logging engineering.
