Abstract:With the increasing development arid application of wavelet theory,wavelet transform has become a powerful new tool for signal processing. Iri the light of Mband wavelet transform theory and seismic data characteristics,M-band wavelet transform is used to compress seismic data to develop coding algorithm for seismic data compression. Data compression is achieved iri following steps:2-D M-band wavelet decomposition is made to obtain frequency-division section that consists of wavelet transform coefficients.Threshold acceptance or rejection of detail components in each subbarid must be done to retain useful detail component but to reject those which are useless or only have little contribution to original data.
