Abstract:The paper describes the principle of wave impedance estimation using self-adaptive filtering It is demonstrated that under a presumption of small reflection coefficients there exists an approximate linear mapping relationship between logarithmic wave impedance and seismic trace, the linear mapping being achieved by using the self-adaptive filtering of signal analysis theory Synthetic and real data results show that the method can produce the acoustic impedance (or interval velocity) sections which have much higher resolution than those created by usual inversion methods, and that borehole-side seismic trace exhibits nearly the same resolution as logging data have Hence the method can be used as an auxiliary means for the inversion with logging data restriction.
