Abstract:Accurate estimation of shear wave velocity in soft formation is an important factor for improving quality for acoustic logging project.Based on the simplified Biot-Rosenbaum model,the sensitivity of dispersion characteristic for the low frequency Stongley wave was analyzed,it is shown in the analysis that for the soft formation the Stongley wave is sensitive to shear wave velocity,and when shear wave can not be detected by dipole acoustic source,the Stoneley wave can be used to invert shear wave velocity.In addition,the instrument's affects to dispersion curve of the Stoneley wave for the soft formation was also analyzed,it is found out that the instrument's affects should be considered.In this paper the method and workflow of utilizating Stoneley wave to invert shear wave velocity were introduced.The application example shows that utilization of dispersion characteristic of the low frequency Stoneley wave to invert Shear wave velocity in soft formation is an effective method.
