Abstract:In view of the fact that the energy density of head wave is directly proportional to its squared amplitude,we can directly determine the first arrival amplitude of head wave in modeling experiment,This paper describes how the head wave energy observed in low velocity Iayer attenuates with the increase of distance to epicenter,The experiment comes to the following conclusion:the observed amplitude has a variatian range of 10%-20% when interface undulation approximates 0.2cm,the amplitude of first arrival increases with depth,and there will be almost no difference between the observed amplitude and theoretical one when observation depth increases to 5-6 apparent wavelengths.
