Abstract:The giant impedance difference between oil-bearing reservoir and surrounding water-saturated strata provides condition for directly detecting oil/gas reservoir by marine CSEM method and achieving good results. The method uses shipboard movable horizontal electric dipole source and array electromagnetic receiver planted into sea bottom to receive the electromagnetic signal coming from seabottom strata, obtains impedance distribution of underground strata by carrying out processing and interpretation of received signal of electromagnetic field and directly detects the oil/gas-bearing feature of strata in the aid of the close relationship between impedance and oil/gas saturation of reservoir. Through tracing and analyzing the CSEM literature published in international symposium and corresponding research periodicals in recent years, the paper introduced the basic principle, developing history and acquisition, processing and interpretation technique of marine CSEM method, carried out study on the research situation, challenge and problems existed in application and pointed out future development and research direction of marine CSEM method, which gave a reference to oil/gas prospecting industry and relevant researchers at home.
