Application of wide field electromagnetic method to the hydrocarbon exploration in a basin of South Jiangxi

Abstract:With rich hydrocarbon source rocks and high total organic carbon content in a basin of South Jiangxi,Banshi formation has good prospects of hydrocarbon exploration.However due to complex surface and subsurface conditions such as red beds and deep volcanics,only poor seismic data are acquired.The target depth and thickness are unknown.To solve these problems,the wide field electromagnetic method is applied to investigate the hydrocarbon resource in the basin.According to the results of the application,organic-rich material shale shows low resistivity and the target distribution,thickness and depth are figured out.Also the Banshi formation distribution is mapped and well parameters are proposed,which provide references for hydrocarbon assessment and the proposal of future prospects.
