Braided-river channel sand characterization based on waveform analysis: an example in Well Su X Area,Ordos Basin

Abstract:H8 in Well Su X Area,Ordos Basin belongs to braided-river channel sediments.There are two sets of sands:H8s and H8x in the H8 member.Sand bodies are widely distributed and stacked in the vertical direction.To characterize these braided-river channel sands,we establish seismic response characteristics of braided-river based on its sedimentary model.A few interpretation tools provided by GeoEast are used to identify braided-river channel sands.Seismic waveform variation characteristics of H8 are identified and classified with the waveform clustering,and the main sand distribution is determined.At the same time,H8 member isochrones on seismic data and the minor sand distribution are obtained with strata slicing on lithologic bodies.These two analysis results are supplemented and verified to improve the seismic vertical resolution.The superimposed main channels and the upper and lower single-sand distribution are accurately characterized,which is consistent with the current geological understandings.Good drilling results in the area are achieved based on our research proposal.
