Abstract:Making the n-order derivative of seismic signals in space domain is equivalent to filtering the seismic signals by a filter whose wavenumber characteristic is (jk)n.The amplitude characteristic of this filter is directly proportional to kn(k is wavenumber).Although this method fails to improve lateral resolution of seismic signals,yet its high pass filter property favours us to recognize high wavenumber informations resulting from subsurface abnormal geological bodies. It is practically shown that both horizontal fault distribution and lateral reservoir variation et cetera can be seen distinctly from the seismic data which have undergone derivation processing.
