Abstract:When the modeled data and the observed data are significantly different in terms of the amplitude and waveform, the traveltime picked by Dynamic Image Warping (DIW) is not accurate enough, which may lead to the failure of the convergence of the misfit function. In this paper, we introduce a Double difference Wave Equation Reflection Traveltime Inversion (DWERTI) method by proposing a new misfit function. Besides, we modify the conventional DIW method with a regularization term to improve its performance. We apply the proposed inversion strategy on a portion of Sigsbee 2A model to test its feasibility based on programming. From the numerical test, we can draw the conclusion that double difference wave equation reflection traveltime inversion method proposed in this paper can greatly improve the stability of traveltime inversion and provide a more reliable initial model for the following conventional full waveform inversion.
