Abstract:Point catastrophe theory is detailed in the paper. The point catastrophic model and the accumulative point catastrophic model are described here, from which one can derive some parameters such as catastrophic potential, catastrophic interval, catastrophic time and so on. This catastrophic theory is introduced to predict hydrocarbon. Authors also illustrate definite geological meanings of some parameters. It is found that catastrophic potential curve and catastrophic time curve show positive correlation to hydrocarbon distribution. Hydrocarbon prediction using catastrophic parameters is thus feasible.
