Abstract:A large number of drilling results have proved that minor faults, especially those which occur in a single bed and have the throws lessthan 50 meters, are in close relationship with gas accumulation. It is stated that minor faults whose throws are smaller than 50 meters can be found out using the forward modeling and the variation of instantaneous phase. The instantaneous phase information has nothing to do with wave energy and can show us the details of the sequence variation at the both sides of a faule. The investigation of minor faults on D structore with the use of this method discovered many new faulting points which had not been known in the conventional processing and interpretation of 3D seismic data.
