Abstract:The visual grade for signal-to-noise ratio of seismic records is defined from theoretical seismograms with difxerent signal-to-noise ratios. Three practical tricks for easy S/N estimating are outlined in the paper, Two pitfalls are pointed out which make processing personnel puzzled in performing static correction and velocity analysis of low S/N seismic data, The potential ability for CDP stacking to improve S/N is analysed; then the measures for good processing of low S/N seismic data are proposed; (1)making good static correction and (2) using two kinds of processing flow, The first processing flow only needs rudimentary S/N to accomplish good static correction and velocity analysis (high fidelity and high resolution are nat offered), and the second one is used for routine processing,The use of two processing flows can improve the quality of Iow S/N seismic data. The noises referred to in this paper are all kinds of random secondary wave which propagate along the surface, Of course,surface waves and refracted interference wave can also be dealt with in the way menboned in the paper, Upgoing interference waves, such as multiples,fault surface wave and diffractions etc, Can cause another type of low S/N seismic data, This question is not diseased in the paper.
