Abstract:It is known that an effective way to enhance seismic wave energy excited by an air gun is directly to make the air gun explore in mud flat.This way has been successfully used in seismic exploration in lake and marsh areas.In this paper,a physical model to describe how the seismic wave is excited by an air gun inserted in mud flat is presented,and an expression of compressional wave in far field is derived from it,It is shown that the far field seismic wave excited in this may is an attenuating sine wave,whose amplitude and frequency spectrum are not only related to the air pressure and volume of the air gun,but more sensitively dependent on the mechanics property of mud flat as well,Theoretically the maximum transfer efficiency from the potential energy of a high pressure air ball to the mechanical work on mud flat is about 28%.
