Abstract:S/N ratio and resolution are two key points which are considered in seismic systems engineering, Yu Shoupeng et al(1984) made a systematic exposition of the essentials of S/N ratio and resolution, such as the definitions, their relation and the research methods, This paper is a supplement to Yu Shoupeng's, The changes in S/N ratio and resolution due to filtering and deconvolution are analysed by researching into two theoretical models of bandpass filtering and deconvo-lution, The concepts of visual S/N ratio and visual resolution are put forward, It is thought that both filtering and deconvolutian can not change S,JN ratio at each frequency, but only alter visual S/N ratio and visual resolution. Some formulas for estimating S/N ratioes and resolution are developed, and their technical meanings expounded. The comment on the merits and demerits of present deconvolutian is made. It is pointed out that a new multichannel decanvalutian which can suppress noises well must be developed in the days to came.
