Abstract:The different geological-time carbonate rocks which had been collected from Yichang, Puqi, and Daye areas in Hubei province were used as rock samples for test, We measured their effectual porosities by using water saturation method, also simulated and determined the propagation regularity and velocity of seismic waves traveling through different carbonate rocks by adopting ultrasonic seismic model, The computer fitting of determined data resulted in regression equation of porosity and velocity, The regression analysis led to the conclusion that seismic velocity versus effectual porosity is a power function curve in the case of limestones, but an exponential function curve in the case of dolomites. shear wave velocity in water-saturated rock sample is lower than that in dry rock sample, while P-wave velocity varies in opposite way, The above discussion favours revealing the rock reservoiring character, evaluating a hydrocarbon-bearing formation, and interpreting a well logging curve.
