Abstract:Balanced-section technique is a forward-inversion method of geologic section,which is based on geometric conservation principle. It is an important means for the recovery of structural deformation. In recent years,huge computer with sophisti-Gated softwares makes the technique widely used in many prospects. As a matter of fact,each balanced-section technique has its own application conditions. Application conditions of Geosec 4.1 software are discussed in detail. The balance computation of five seismic sections in the Kuche depression of Tarim basin has been made to offer a reasonable result. The result says that major structural shortening is 30%~40% and happened in mid-late Cenozoic. Then the original seismic interpretation has been revised desirably.
