Abstract:Long period inherited faulting caused the complexity of nowaday fault-block oil fields, which is characterised by multitudinous faults, small fault-block area, multiple and discontinuous oil reservoirs, and big differences in reservoir number, reservoir property and oil production of different fault blocks. Both the exploration and development can not be accomplished at one go because of the complexityit is, therefore, necessary to often make comprehensive study of geological structure in the whole course of exploration and development of oil fields. The comprehensive study of geological structure mainly takes aim at the locations: "blank area" of structural map,oil field boo ndary, transition area between oil fields, "small depression" within oil field, and deep formations of oil field. The comprehensive structure study for complex fault-block oil field not only ascertains local and areal structures but also finds out favourable hydrocarbon-bearing formations an dregions, the relationship between drilled hydrocarbon-bearing formations and fault, the conditions of hydrocarbon enrichment and high production, and the reason of dry hole. The comprehensive study of geological structure needs to make good use of existing geophysical data, drilling information and development data of oil field. It also uses flexible plotting method with higher accuracy.
