Abstract:Wavelet transform is only suitable to identify the information in low-frequency band and unsuitable to identify the information in high-frequency band. The wavelet package transform is suitable to finely identify the information in both high and low frequency bands, which is ideal processing tool of non-stationary time-variable signal (e. g. seismic signal). The paper studied in detail the relationship between the nodes of wavelet package decomposition tree and associated frequency bands and analyzed in detail the cause of inconsistency between the sequence of the nodes of wavelet package decomposition tree and the sequence of the associated frequency bands. The application cases showed that the wavelet package transform can better detect the useful high-frequency information of seismic wave, including use of high-frequency information from shallow, mediate and deep parts of the earth, so that may be possible to better reveal the fine structural configuration of the earth, which provides more abundant information for oil/ gas exploration and the study of lithospheric dynamics.
