Abstract:The paper uses frequency-amplitude ratio method presented by Mr. Toksoz et al for laboratory test of velocities (VP, VS) and quality factors (QP, QS) of P- and S-waves in sandstone and mud-stone samples and obtained following conclusions: the attenuation is irrelative to frequency and there is strong correlation between P-wave velocity and S-wave velocity for dry rocks ; the P-wave velocity is weak correlative to P-wave quality factor and S-wave velocity is strong correlative to S-wave quality factor; P-wave quality factor is strong correlative to S-wave quality factor; porosity is linear with P- and S-waves velocities; the attenuation of rocks comes under the influence of lithology, the attenuation of mudstone is greater than that of sandstone and gravel-packing sand is greater than that without gravel pack.
